“I want you to WANT to do the dishes”

03/24/2010

Let’s face it, dishes are one of those chores that has to be done daily, and after a long day of work and a nice dinner dishes might be the last thing anyone wants to do.  What has become somewhat of a nightly joke in the King house, who does the dishes, we would like to see what the rest of you do about the dish situation.  Because let’s face it, we aren’t in college anymore and a mountain of dishes is just not cool 🙂

The Scoop: Brooke does most of the cooking, although Eric is an excellent cook, she gets home first and has dinner ready to be served when Eric arrives.  They sit down have a great dinner, talk about their days, and try to delay the end of dinner because we know whats ahead, the dishes!!  While Brooke and Eric for the most part have the routine, Brooke cooks and Eric does the dishes, things are a bit more complicated.  Brooke likes the kitchen especially, to be neat/tidy and everything put away immediately following dinner allowing her to relax, while Eric will get around to them when he gets around to them.  Eric is much smarter than the average bear and has learned that if he puts the dishes off for long enough there is actually a “dish fairy” that comes through the house and voila the dishes are done, just like magic!!!

Does this sound familiar??  Do you have a better routine??  Not that it’s going to make a difference as far as the King’s are concerned, we thought it would be fun to see how the dishes get done in your house!!!  And if this subject really hits home for you, feel free to leave comments!!

Sorry for my poor formatting, it's the first poll!!

Our New Fence!!!

03/20/2010

For those of you that have dogs you definitely understand the value of having a fence.  Callie and Rocco are pretty good dogs and typically do come back when they are called, and in my opinion if they want to take the risk of leaving us then more power to them.  However, for the random times Callie likes to run circles around our entire row of townhouses in the freezing cold, or Rocco’s desire to bolt across the street to sniff, lick, and jump on just about anything that walks by, their jail has finally been built!!  I am sure our neighbor is going to appreciate the fence maybe even more than us due to Rocco’s land mines he tends to leave in their yard daily.  The fence is going to be a great addition to our house and allow the dogs time to spend outside without constant supervision, they grow up so fast haha 🙂  We do however have to go in 5 feet from the edge of our property line since we are the end unit allowing drivers to see around the turn (darn HOA and all their rules), so any ideas of what to do with 5 feet of land on the outside of the fence would be greatly appreciated…so far a pitching mound is running in 1st place!!!

Our Brackets are In!!!

03/18/2010

March Madness is in full effect and one of the most exciting times of the year in our household!!  You really can’t beat the down to the second, high intensity, crazy upsets, and great basketball of the NCAA Tourney.  Our brackets are in and our selections have been made.  BOTH of us chose the ODU upset so we are off to a great start and THANK GOODNESS Villanova pulled it off as we both have them going to the next round at least.  Hey we didn’t win the power ball last week odds tell us we have to win something one of these days!!  Eric has Duke winning the entire thing while Brooke has chosen Kansas.  We are trying to find a way to hook up our TV in our garage tonight so we can watch the games and monitor our brackets for the remainder of the tournament while also enjoying this beautiful weather.  Let’s go KINGS!!!  And of course when all is said and done and the new NCAA champion is named, Brooke gets to enjoy her favorite part of the tournament with the video of highlights to “One Shining Moment.”

Spring Fever…lace ’em up!!!

03/12/2010

Finallllly the snow is melted and we have had a few days in the 50’s and 60’s… our 4 month (since the wedding) streak of not being active is OVER!!!!!  We have been on 4 long walk/jogs/runs this week with the dogs who are both overweight said the vet at their check ups last month, bad parents!!!  The first walk was an “adventure” one where we walked through the muddy terrain of undeveloped land behind our neighborhood.  It is crazy to think there are going to be houses and complete neighborhoods on this land within the next few years.  We also found a middle school we didn’t know existed!!!  Our other 3 “trots” were on our new path, that comes to about 1.5 miles through the surrounding neighborhoods.  Day 1 was pretty tough for me at least, Eric says he could have run the whole thing.  Easier for 2 and 3 and now we feel great!!  We have been eating super healthy and no weekday “glasses” of wine, hopefully the healthy kick is here to stay.  Must get skinny, must get skinny has become out new motto!!  We do have summer and bathing suits just around the corner!!!

And we thought we were TALL!!!

03/11/2010

Eric and I were invited by our neighbor to join him in the box seats at the Wizards game this past Tuesday.  Although the Wizards are terrible haha and pro basketball doesn’t really excite us, you can’t turn down box seats at the Verizon Center for a sporting event!!!  We had a great time going back and forth watching the Wizards live and the UConn women on the TV at the bar continuing their 73 game winning streak.  Towards the end of the night a special guest came into the box, “the Giant,” none other than Gheorghe Muresan.  For the first time we felt short haha 🙂

Olympic Games 2010!

03/03/2010

We LOVE sports, we all know that, but you wouldn’t catch us in the winter Olympics.  These athletes are of a different breed!!  Flying down ice in the luge and bobsled, skiing at insane speed down the side of a mountain, jumping on skis 20+ feet in the air WHILE doing 5 rotations AND 3 flips…goodness gracious- talk about living on the edge!!  We loved the Olympics this year.  My favorite Olympic sport to watch has always been the women’s figure skating.  From the days of Nancy Kerrigan/Tonya Harding/Kristy Yamaguchi/Michelle Kwan I have been hooked on the sport!!  This year I didn’t do my research and didn’t know who the top skaters were but Yu-Na Kim and her two amazing performances sure did capture my attention.

Eric’s favorite winter Olympic sport is Ice Hockey of course- no surprise to anyone!!  What a great showing by the USA team especially being the youngest team in the Olympics!!  When the USA was beating Finland 6-0 in the 1st quarter we were confident in our team making it to the gold medal game and sent out the invitation to friends and family to join us at our house for the main event!!  A great game, didn’t end the way we had hoped but at the end of the day we were happy with the performance of the team!!  GO USA!! And for the party of course we had chilli and patriotic cup cakes for all to enjoy!!

Colorado Vacation – February 2010

02/25/2010

Eric and Brooke went on vacation with Brooke’s mom and Step Dad, Brother (Chris) and his girl friend (Jen) and spent a long weekend in Colorado.  The first day we rented ski’s and realized our ski rack was broken, made way to our beautiful log home in Breckenridge, and the hit the grocery store to get the essentials!

Day #2- We went to Vail!!  It was freezing and snowing all day.  Vail was great, sooooo big, although some of the slopes weren’t groomed.  Vail is a place you need to stay at for a week to ski all of their slopes, being our first day skiing this year this was a lot of work for us.  Getting back to the car and putting on our shoes was the best feeling!!!  We then walked around the little town which was SOOOO cute and awesome!!!

#3- #5 we Spent the rest of our time in Breckenridge!!!  What a cool town, we really want to go back there in the summer sometime soon.  Breckenridge skiing was a group favorite as well, 155 trails, an assortment of Greens for Eric and Jen, and they were PLOWED!!!

We wandered the streets of Breck as well.  We experienced our favorite new Mexican restaurant called Mi Casa, the margaritas were to die for, maybe because we were sooooo sore and hungry by the time we got there!!!  Eric found the Breckenridge Brewery which coincidentally was named “Eric’s” and Brooke found a gigantic Callie Wallie on the side-walk, poor thing had a photo shoot once I got ahold of it!!!

All in all we had a great time in Colorado and looking forward to going back sometime in the future!!!

Perfectly Planned LAUNCHED!!!

02/16/2010

Can you believe it’s already been a whole year since Eric surprised Brooke with an amazing engagement?!?!?  To celebrate this year we decided it would be fun to go to some vineyards in the area.  We tasted some great wine and had a fabulous day and finally it wasn’t snowing!!!  We returned home to 2 dozen beautiful pink and red roses and then Eric made us a super romantic meal with Steak and Lobster…he sure knows the way to my heart!!  We ended the night with a sample cheese cake platter YUMMM on the couch with the doggies watching the Olympics!!
